Advanced Planning and Growth Management
(Comprehensive Plans)
Advanced planning functions support the responsibility of the Douglas County Regional Planning Commission and the Board of Commissioners to prepare, adopt and implement the Douglas County Comprehensive Plan. This includes data collection and analysis, conducting citizen participation and education programs, drafting plan recommendations, preparing implementation codes, and monitoring the effectiveness of plans. Link to this program area for more information on advanced planning activities and review copies of adopted plans for land use, transportation, capital facilities and public participation.
The advanced planning division of Land Services studies the ways that land use affects the community. Advanced planning evaluates the economic, demographic, scientific, and cultural aspects of the built environment.
The advanced planning division is responsible for providing the public with options that allow communities and their citizens to achieve the goals that are set forth in a comprehensive plan. The advanced planning staff assists community leaders in making decisions and recommendations that will result in a viable and healthy future for the community. Specifically, the advanced planning division helps the community to create a vision, generate a plan to reach that vision, and build tools that will help implement the plan.
These tasks are accomplished by providing the best available advice and information to citizen committees, the Douglas County Regional Planning Commission, and the Board of Commissioners.
Douglas County and the cities of Bridgeport, East Wenatchee, and Rock Island are in the process of updating the Shoreline Master Program. For more information Click Here.
